A leader with proven experience

West Valley Native

Eric Orsborn Bio and Accomplishments

I was born and raised in the West Valley.  Since that time, I have seen our region grow from a collection of small farming communities into one of the most successful and rapidly growing destinations in the United States.  In fact, Buckeye was named the fastest growing city in the country and we have been very successful in attracting hundreds of jobs and hundreds of millions in economic investment.  It has been an amazing transformation and I have been honored to be part of it.

I moved to Buckeye 16 years ago because I saw the potential in this community.  At the time, the town was small, but it was on the verge of big things.   It was my background in construction and management that brought me here.  It’s the sense of community and opportunity that helped me to stay, establish roots, and raise my family.

Ten years ago, the great recession hit Buckeye hard.  The town had bet big on growth and was struggling when the market collapsed.  I decided to run for the Buckeye Council because I knew that I could help provide stable leadership and responsible fiscal stewardship to a struggling community.

That was right around the time that Mayor Meck brought an amazing perspective and new attitude to help lead his long-time hometown.  He kicked off a new era of “Buckeye is Open for Business” and I knew that my small business background and my budget and development experience could help.  Together, over the past ten years, we have changed the way Buckeye does business and transformed from a “town” to a city.

Today, Buckeye is safer.  During my time on council, we invested in and transformed public safety.  I am proud to have championed the award-winning Community Paramedicine Program.  Working with the Buckeye Fire Medical Rescue Department, we developed an innovative program that helps keep response times low and ensure our first responders be there when you need them most.

To help with this, we also authorized construction of three permanent fire stations serving new communities, as well as constructed new public safety facilities including administration buildings for police and fire and a police evidence and training facility.  Our work has ensured that Buckeye is consistently named among the safest cities in the state.

Today, Buckeye is more prosperous.  With Cardinal Glass, Parker Fasteners, and other great businesses, we have seen a surge in high-tech and manufacturing jobs.  We have also invested in Historic Buckeye with infrastructure projects, streetscape improvements, and an economic catalyst program.  I have been intimately involved in economic development projects for the city and know firsthand how important these investments – both big and small – are for our long-term growth and economic prosperity.  One of the key reasons I want to serve as mayor is there are several opportunities under discussion that I want to make sure cross the finish line.

Today, Buckeye is a better place to live.  We have committed to quality of life and protecting our open space.  With the opening of Skyline Regional Park, Sundance Park, and the White Tank Mountain Conservancy, Buckeye has more open space than any other city in the valley.

In addition, we stabilized executive leadership and helped recruit, maintain, and grow competent highly skilled staff to serve our residents.  It may not always be the most exciting thing to talk about, but Buckeye’s future success will come from our successful planning.   We have worked to ensure that our future is bright, and our citizens will have the services and amenities they deserve.  Our award-winning General Plan update will help us ensure we continue to grow and develop wisely.  Our traffic master plan will help reduce congestion and ensure that people, goods, and services can flow throughout our community.  Our pedestrian and bicycle master plan will ensure that we have a livable, walkable community where our citizens can safely recreate.

Today, Buckeye is smarter.  We have been committed to quality education – from public schools to charter schools and increasing our focus on secondary education.  I am an outspoken advocate for West-MEC and the career and technical education that it offers.  The Southwest Campus is one of a kind in the country and offers amazing opportunities to help grow our future workforce.  We also worked to expand Estrella Mountain Community College and ensure there were more secondary education opportunities in Buckeye.

Buckeye is safer, more prosperous, better, and smarter.  But we are a far way from being done.  We can be the envy of the region when it comes to new high wage jobs, manufacturing, and quality of life.  Things are headed in the right direction and I am running for Mayor to make sure that it stays that way.  Together, we can continue to build a stronger Buckeye and I would be honored to have your vote.
